 Recovery Play

Steep Down Hill Lie
Your body weight is on the balls of your feet with the majority falling through the lower leg. This position requires considerable strength to maintain position.
A wide stance is required to give you a good base of support.
The backswing starts by pushing the club away with your left arm while rotating your shoulders
The backswing is reduced in length as the left side remains the pivot point. Hip rotation is restricted due to the severe slope.

The downswing starts with a central body rotation and your right elbow moving back in line with your right hip (original address position)
The club rotates back to the ball as you maintain body height and balance.

THE BALL WILL FLY VERY LOW. YOU MUST SELECT THE CORRECT LOFT TO ELEVATE THE BALL AND MAINTAIN YOUR STRIKE. TOO STRAIGHT A LOFT WILL REQUIRE A RIGHT SIDE BODY COLLAPSE TO ELEVATE THE BALL THIS WILL RESULT IN A MISS HIT

WARNING
An over aggressive move will place your left knee and hip under pressure. Unless you are conditioned to this type of movement BE CAREFUL

Using an incorrect loft will drive the ball into the ground at the bottom of the slope

Side Bank of a Ditch
Club Selection - Pitching Wedge
Distance - 60yards

WARNING
This shot carriers a risk of injury to the knees, lower back, hips elbows and wrists. Great care must be taken when assessing the ground conditions and your own mobility and flexibility ranges when attempting this shot.

A wide stance requires a certain amount of athleticism. There will be a limited amount of body rotation therefore any power will be created from your arm swing.
Your wrists hinge quickly on the backswing as your left arm swings across your chest.
Your arms pull and lever the club down causing your right arm and wrist to extend the club into the ball.

THIS IS WHERE INJURIES CAN OCCUR – CAUTION SHOULD BE ADOPTED.

Your body weight will lean into the back foot as the club contacts the ground

Back Hand from the Side of a Tree

Warning
This shot carries a risk of Injury when striking close to tree roots. You MUST assess the risk before attempting this shot.

Club Selection - Pitching Wedge
Distance - Up to 60 yards

Your dominant arm is the main power source, however you are required to have high mid body strength (core stability) to hold balance when you execute with power.

Rotate the club head so the face points to the ball. The palm of your hand MUST point to your LEG.

Grip the club firmly.

The height you raise your arm will determine the power you will deliver.

Your arm should bend at the elbow.

Keep looking at the ball and strike firmly down.

It’s important you brace your body for impact giving your arm the maximum support possible

Ball Above Your Feet

I you have measured the ball correctly (Faultfinder and Swing Builder Section), then striking from this stance is simple, however if you are relying on your 'natural' hand and eye skills then this can be very unpredictable especially if your balance skills are limited (most players are).

Playing from the Back Lip of a Bunker

WARNING

Playing from the back of a bunker carries a risk of wrist injury

Club Selection: - 58 deg Wedge
Distance: - Up to 30 yards.
Control: - low spin (50% carry and 50% roll).

Important Points

Key areas: -

1)     Wide stance with your body weight on your left side.
2)     Right shoulder high, right hip high and your hands should be forward of the ball.
3)     Wrists hinge the club quickly to allow the shaft to point at the ball while maintaining a forward body position. DON’T TRANSFERE YOUR BODY WEIGHT ON TO YOUR BACK FOOT.
4)     Your arms pull the club down while maintaining your wrist hinge.
Your wrists unhinge the club under the ball allowing your left wrist to fold as the club accelerates through the sand. The loft is retained on the club face through impact and beyond.
