Effective Practice Techniques
“Practice makes Permanent”
Ever spent hours on the range smashing balls and driving yourself mad?
It doesn’t have to be that way anymore. Practising someone else’s movements will drive you crazy. You should be practising your own movements.
At Learn Golf UK we focus on your profile and movement ranges to develop a simple and effective technique that can be practiced in a constructive manner. Quality ball striking and consistency partner a sound and simple technique that will allow golf skills to blossom. Practise becomes enjoyable and constructive instead of destructive
Fault Finder will guide you to the beneficial changes you need to enjoy your practise.
Maintaining Strike Quality
Strike quality is all about developing your game around your body balance line. Practising away form this will incourage incorrect body movements to recover poor body positioning. Taking a swing which is full of recovery moves on to the golf course will result in a disaster as natural tensions appear (especially on the 1st tee).
Bending the shaft correctly and compressing the golf ball will result in a 'fizzing' strike. The ball will 'pierce' through the air, then peak in it's flight as the spin takes hold. With practise you can achieve the 'double flighted' strike. This is where the ball seems to peak in flight then goes again reaching a new altitude (this is always great to watch and even better when you do it!).
Here's a great tip for learning how to compress the ball...
Place two canes in the ground 3 meters apart and 3 meters in front of your practise space. Tie a piece of string across the canes 1 meter off the ground. Using a 6 iron strike the ball under the string but make the ball flight high. Initially you will think this cannot be done, but with practise you will find that you can produce spin while maintaining a piercing flight. SWING DRILL 3 (in the Video Tips Section) will help to develop the feel for compressing and spinning the ball.
Playing with a golf ball that is too hard will restrict he compression and therefore the effect of your strike. Watch out for the weather too, if its cold go to a softer ball.
